Ali Abunimah remarked last year that Netanyahu deals with strategic defeats on one front by escalating on another front, and compared him to a gambling addict on a really bad losing streak who, instead of doing the sensible thing by quitting, doubles and triples down hoping for a miraculous win. It seems the Israeli political class and security establishment, due to their arrogance and supremacism, can only conceive of a region where they have absolute dominance, and have no vision of cooperation amongst equal partners. This does not bode well for the survival of the current regime in Israel as even its potential allies like Qatar and KSA have come to realize they will never be treated with the dignity of equals no matter how hard they try.

What prevents the US from being friends with Iran (other than Israel)? It’s a vast country with lots of investment opportunities. We can partner to explore their gigantic shoreline rich with resources, secure jobs for American engineers and blue-collar workers, and benefit both peoples. A big, beautiful divorce with Israel is the only America first thing to do.
